Joseph E. Brown, Jr. age 77, passed away peacefully at home on May 22, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Everett, he was the son to the late Joseph E. Brown, Sr., and Dorothy (Gardner) Brown. He leaves behind his dear wife Gina M. (Murray) Brown. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was proud of the time he served his country. He was a life member of the Winthrop Yacht Club, where he kept his sailboat for many years, and was an honorary life member of the Old Colony Model Railroad Club, where he enjoyed many happy hours creating scenery for the layout. Joe was a communicant of St. John Episcopal Church in Winthrop for many years. He also enjoyed skiing, tending to his yard, and working on his car and model railroad. He was a talented painter winning several awards for his paintings. Family members often commented that he was a renaissance man due to his many talents. He was a kind, caring person who will be missed by many, especially his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Gina, Joe is survived by his children Christina Brown and Michael Brown. He was the grandfather to Hunter Brown. He also leaves behind his sister Nancy (Brown) Farrel and her husband Michael, as well as many nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Monday June 3rd from 4-7 PM. Funeral Prayers will be held the next day, Tuesday June 4th at the funeral home at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave in Bourne at 12:30 PM. Due to floral restrictions at the cemetery, the family has asked that donations in Joe’s memory may be made to Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS), P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574, or to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306 or Paralyzed Veterans of America at https://secure.pva.org/.


The family would like to extend their gratitude to Joe’s home care nurses, Brenda, Sheila, Shannon, and Kim, and thank them for their loving care during Joe’s illness. They would also like to thank the Jamaica Plain VA ALS team, the VA West Roxbury surgery team, and the Brockton VA primary care and hospice nursing team for their kindness and compassion.
