Joseph M. Callanan, 73, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. He was the husband of Joanne F. (McStowe) Callanan for 53 years. Son of the late Joseph J. and Vera (Revnoff) Callanan, he was born in Boston. Joe was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1966. He was a Private in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked for Shaw's Supermarket for 40 years and North Coast Seafood for 10 years before retiring in 2009. He was also an official meat cutter for years. He helped build Elite Fitness in Stoughton and was seen there often. Joe was a member of the American Legion and also a member of the Elks in Weymouth. He was a car and motor coach enthusiast and was a member of the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) and the FMCA Yankee Travelers, FMCA Cape Codders and FMCA Northeast. He was active in 4-H for years. He enjoyed lunch every Friday with his friends from high school, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his children, Kevin M. Callanan and his wife Melissa of Easton, Kimberly C. O'Leary and her husband Brian of Leicester, Keith E. Callanan and his wife Kristen of Stoughton and Kristine F. Carlo and her husband Richard of Walpole. He was the loving grandfather of Matthew St. Clair, Zachary Price, Samantha St. Clair, Kate Callanan, Jackson Carlo, Shay Callanan, Alex Callanan, Luke Callanan, Andrew Carlo, Ty Callanan, Nathan Carlo, Jack O'Leary and Camryn O'Leary.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, private family services will be held with a celebration of Joe's life to be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Dry Pond Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Joe's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
