Joseph C. DeGrande, 78, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at the VA Medical Center in Brockton on Friday, September 25, 2026. He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth (Clancy) DeGrande for 49 years until her passing in November, 2020. He was born and raised in Dorchester, son of the late Domenic and Marion (Twomey) DeGrande. Joe was a graduate of Dorchester High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving 4 years before he was honorably discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal. After the war, Joe continued his education, graduating from Boston State College. He and his wife settled in Stoughton to raise their family 51 years ago. He worked for Boston Edison which then became NStar for 37 years until his retirement in 2007. Joe played and coached for Eddie’s Giants in the Boston Park League. He also coached Stoughton Little League for 15 years, as well as STOYAC basketball for several years. He was a member of the VFW. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Red Sox and Joe loved to tell a great story. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and he cherished his summers spent at Lovell Lake in New Hampshire. 

Joe is survived by his children, Melissa R. Mello of Stoughton, Michael A. DeGrande of South Easton and Timothy J. DeGrande of Rockland as well as his grandchildren, Madison, Drew and Vincenzo. He was the brother of Richard DeGrande of North Reading and is also survived by 4 nieces and nephews. 

Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, October 5 from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, October 6 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Burial will be private.
