Josephine M. (Kirker) McNamara

Josephine M. (Kirker) McNamara, 86, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died peacefully at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Tuesday, March 7, 2023.  She was the wife of 64 years to the late James F. McNamara, Jr. of Stoughton.

Josephine was born in Brockton, daughter of the late Edmund and Josephine (Sipsey) Kirker.  She was a graduate of Brockton High School, Captain of her high school basketball team and enjoyed her time ice skating on Flaggs Pond.  Josephine worked at Kresge’s Department Store in Brockton and New England Telephone for several years before being the office manager at J.F. McNamara & Sons in Stoughton for 39 years.

She enjoyed her bowling leagues on Tuesday mornings at Westgate Lanes in Brockton, Thursday nights at Bingo as well as many trips to casinos.  Josephine had a sharp wit, plenty of laughter to spread around, enjoyed her travels throughout the USA and Caribbean but her greatest joy was spending time in her Falmouth home surrounded by family and friends.

Josephine is survived by her children, James F. McNamara, III and his wife Beth of Lakeville, Michael J. McNamara and his wife Kerry of Brockton, Debora J. Gill and her husband Roderick of Key West, FL, Robert J. McNamara and his wife Cheryl of Brockton and Maureen McNamara of Brockton.  She was the sister of Christine Strong of Tampa, FL, Jean LeBlanc of Ft. Myers, FL, John Kirker of Las Vegas, NV and the late Edmund Kirker, Jr., Elaine Jennings, Col. Maj. Kenneth Kirker, Daniel Kirker and Jane Chassey.  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, March 15 at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Brockton at 10:30 AM.  Visiting Hours Tuesday from 4-7 PM.  Interment will take place at Dry Pond Cemetery, Stoughton.  Josephine was an avid Red Sox fan so in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Red Sox Foundation, PO Box 411217, Boston, MA 02241 (https://www.redsoxfoundation.org/).
