Josephine Cecilia (Tabbi) Sargent

Josephine Cecilia (Tabbi) Sargent, age 90 of Stoughton, was called home by our Lord on Monday, June 27, 2022. Born in Boston, she was the daughter to the late Francesco and Carmella (Pasqualina) Tabbi of Reisi, Sicily. She was the cherished wife to Alfred John Sargent, Sr. for 71 loving years. She was a family of eight brothers and sisters. She grew up in a traditional Italian family with lots of love, warmth and her mother's homecooked meals. She attended Jamaica Plain High and graduated in 1950. She then met and fell in love with Alfred. They got married on August 21, 1951 at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Jamaica Plain. Married life agreed with them both, and on February 28, 1953 their son Alfred Jr. was born. Together Josephine and Alfred moved to Hyde Park where they grew together as a family. Josie soon accepted a position as Assistant Manager of the of the school cafeteria at Curry College in Milton. In the late 1960's, the Boston Patriots set up their training camp at Curry, and Josie was put in charge of planning the team menu. Linebacker and hall-of-famer, Nick Buoniconti was her favorite player. Nick would rally the team members to bus the tables after meals, and praise Josie for all she and the staff did. She was Founder and Assistant Director of St. Anthony's Tabbi Tots Child Care Center in Readville, named for her Patron Saint and in honor and remembrance of her parents. Josie continued her loved for children and early education, at the Dawe Elementary School as a Kindergarten Teacher. Josie and Fred built their dream house on Pine Street in Stoughton, just down the road from the school. She and her twin sister Phyliss were great cooks and organizers, planning many a meal for family and friends over the holidays. She attended mass at St. James Church in Stoughton, where she served as a Eucharist Minister. This was very special to her and only strengthened her faith in God. She always enjoyed being with her Senior Group on their bus trips to Foxwoods, and helping with dinners and events at their Senior Center in Stoughton. On occasion, she would also drive down to Connecticut with Fred and her sister Tina, and niece/godchild Camille. Josie had a talent for painting, creating many beautiful florals and landscapes, which she would display in her home. Her sketch of a photograph, of singer Tony Bennett was presented to him at a concert. She would reflect on how Tony liked it very much and encouraged her to, in his words, "keep painting".

Josie is survived by her beloved son, Alfred J. Sargent, Jr. of Stoughton. Loving sister to Phyliss Tabbi of Stoughton, Joseph Tabbi and his wife Patricia of Hampstead, NH. She was predeceased by her siblings, Tina Pegnato, Rose Marie Palladino, Philip Tabbi, Francesco "Frank" Tabbi and Gaetano Tabbi. She was the dear aunt to Mary MacDonnell and her husband Michael, Margot Dechiara and husband Dominic, Baby Luca and nephew Marc MacDonnell all of Kingston, MA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
