Julius “K.O.” Lopes, 94, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Boston Medical Center South in Brockton on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brockton, he was the son of the late Julio and Julia (Burgess) Lopes.
While Julius was a patient at Brockton Hospital many years ago, he met his future wife, Catherine Earley, who was working as a nurse’s aide. It was love at first sight, and the two were inseparable until Cathy’s passing in 2022, after 64 years of marriage.
Julius proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He worked as a truck driver for Intercity Transportation in Brockton and Easton for 32 years and for T.F. Earley in Stoughton for 10 years. He also worked for many years at the Stoughton Shell and Stoughton Mobil, as well as several years at the Stoughton Car Wash.
Julius was a member of Teamsters Local 653 and the Teamsters Retiree Breakfast Club, and a former member of the Randolph Elks. His nickname, “K.O.,” dated back to his days as an amateur boxer in his youth, a name that stayed with him throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage and poker, and trying his luck at the slot machines, especially at Twin River and Foxwoods. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Julius is survived by his children, Ellen “Lynne” Elms and her husband Francis, and Thomas Lopes, all of Stoughton; Julie-Ann Wilson of Pennsylvania; Chrissy Carrico and her husband William of Franklin; and Keith Wilson and his wife Noelle of Boxford. He was the brother of the late Eugene Lopes and his late wife, Wayne. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him tremendous joy and were a cherished part of the Lopes family legacy.
Visiting hours will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Monday, October 19, from 4–7 PM. A graveside service will be held at Knollwood Memorial Park, 321 High St., Canton, on Tuesday, October 20, at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Julius’s memory may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168, or at www.dana-farber.org.
