Kathleen "Kay" L. (Wood) Speed, age 93, passed away on March 29, 2022 at the Hope Health Hospice in Providence, RI after a period of declining health. She was the loving wife to the late Chester T. Speed, and the late Harold M. Fugate, Sr. Born in Cambridge, daughter of the late Charles Henry and Mildred L. (Preston) Wood Babin, she was raised and educated in the Portland, Maine area. She was a resident of Taunton after spending many years raising her family in Stoughton. Mrs. Speed was a longtime employee of the E. A. Jones Elementary School in Stoughton where she retired as the Cafeteria Manager. During her time in Stoughton, she was an active member of the VFW and American Legion Women's Auxiliary along with the Immaculate Conception Church. While living at the Colonial Estates community in Taunton she made many dear friends and contributed her time organizing and participating in events held there. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, crafts, cards and bingo. Most of all she loved being surrounded by her beloved family.
Kathleen is survived by her children Donna L. Nolan and her husband Paul of West Bridgewater, Mariea L. Totino and her husband Stephen of Stoughton and was predeceased by her children Cathyrn A. Taylor and Harold M. "Marty" Fugate, Jr. and his surviving wife Shirley (Santarpio) Fugate of Stoughton, stepchildren Helen Dukeshire, John Speed, Stephen Speed and Kathleen Hersey. She was the loving grandmother to Robin Taylor, Joe Lindstrom, Kellie Johnson, Gregory Correia, Jesse Fugate, Jake Fugate and Nicholas Totino. Oldest of 10 children, she was the sister of Eleanor Applegate, Phyllis Sakay, Linda Holland and the late Mildred Braman, Mary Ellen Phillips, Lorean DiFelice, Shirley Walley, Brenda Rundatz and Charles Wood. Loving GG to 9 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Prayers will be offered in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., Stoughton, on Monday, April 4th at 12 PM with Visiting Hours prior from 10AM-12 PM.
