Lawrence "Laurie" O'Brien, 79, a resident of East Falmouth, formerly of Canton, died peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on Friday, April 30, 2021. He was the husband of Priscilla (Standish) O'Brien for 59 years. Son of the late Richard J. and Elizabeth (Sullivan) O'Brien, he was born in Norwood and raised in Canton. Laurie was a graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1959 where he was Captain of both the basketball and baseball teams. He served in the U.S. National Guard for several years. Laurie was a firefighter with the Canton Fire Department for 37 years before retiring at age 65. He also worked for Russell Oil then Lamparelli Oil both in Canton for over 30 years and Joe Butler Forms and O'Brien Forms both in Canton for over 40 years. He was a member of the Canton Town Club and Knights of Columbus in Canton. Laurie enjoyed playing in the Canton Softball League and Over 30 Softball League on the Canton Fire team. He was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed quahogging but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Laurie was the father of Edward L. O'Brien and his wife Lori of East Falmouth, Thomas P. O'Brien and his wife Meg of Canton, Lauren E. O'Brien and her fiancé Tom Silva of Hingham, John M. O'Brien and his wife Lisa of Dedham, Paul J. O'Brien and his wife Alison of North Attleboro and the late Daniel J. O'Brien. He was the Papa of Dallas, Morgan, Taylor, Emilie, Kailey and Riley O'Brien. He was the brother of Richard O'Brien of Cohasset, Peter O'Brien of Norwood, Mary Quilty of Kingston and the late Joseph O'Brien and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 700 Washington St., Canton on Wednesday, May 5 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday from 4-7 PM. Masks and social distancing required at both. Interment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Laurie's memory may be made to Canton EMS Assn., 99 Revere St., Canton, MA 02021.
