Leo E. Mellyn

Leo E. Mellyn, 82, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Norwood Hospital in Norwood after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of 57 years of Jean C. (McIver) Mellyn. Born and raised in Roslindale, he was a graduate of Roslindale High School and the Bentley School of Accounting & Finance. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Mellyn worked as an accountant for several area companies including Allied Container in Dedham for 25 years. He was active in the Stoughton area as a member of the Stoughton Finance Committee, as a Town Meeting Rep and as a member of the West Stoughton Civic Association. He was a longtime proud member of the Stoughton Grenadiers and was the past president of the Chemung Hill School PTA. A lover of history, for several years was a member of the Castle Island Association and was a Tour Guide at Fort Independence at Castle Island. He was also a member of SOLA and an advocate of the Stoughton Library. In his free time, he enjoyed reading and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Stewart E. Mellyn (Stoughton PD) and Scott E. Mellyn (Stoughton FD) and his wife Christine all of Stoughton. He was the loving "Poppa" of Sarah and Amanda Mellyn. He was the brother of the late Marilyn Sybertz.
Funeral Prayers will be offered in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, November 21 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Dry Pond Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Leo's memory may be made to the MDS Foundation, 4573 South Broad St. Suite 150, Yardville, NJ 08620 or to the American Red Cross, 180 Rustcraft Rd., Suite 115, Dedham, MA 02026.
