Luis M. Barros, age 75, passed away peacefully at his residence in Stoughton on October 6th, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Maria E. (Cabral) Barros for 52 years, being together for a total of 60 years. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, Luis was the son of the late Adelina (Soares) and Manuel Barros. He came to the U.S. in 1972, becoming a lifelong resident of Stoughton. He held many different job titles, one being the owner of Luis’ Fish Market on Wyman Street in Stoughton for 10 years. He was also everyone’s favorite bartender at the Portuguese National Club and Saint John’s Filarmonica Society in Stoughton for many years. He loved to sing and dance and was very music-oriented, playing the accordion and guitar. He enjoyed fishing and was a handyman, always helping his family with things around the house.
In addition to his wife, Luis is survived by his godchildren and their families, Gorete Ka of Northborough, Gil Cabral of Taunton, Arnold Cabral of Raynham, Jessey Fraga of Canada, and John Barros of Florida. He is also survived by his siblings, Eduardo Barros of Portugal, Guilherme Barros of Stoughton, Isidro Barros of Stoughton, José Manuel Barros of Stoughton, Silvino Barros of Stoughton, Sofia Lopes of Florida, and was predeceased by his brother Juliao Barros of Canada. Luis loved being “Vovô Luis” to Gianna and Serafina Ka. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt.27), Stoughton, on Tuesday, October 10th, from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Service will be held the next day, Wednesday, October 11th, at the funeral home at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.
