Manuel A. DeMelo, 78, died peacefully at his home in Stoughton on Thursday, May 1, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on the island of Faial in the Azores, Portugal, son of the late Manuel and Aurora (DaSilva) DeMelo, he was raised and educated on Faial. In 1970, Manny, as he was known to his family and friends, married Mary Jo Correia in Faial, and together they enjoyed 55 years of marriage and raised three children. They came to the United States in 1971 and settled in Stoughton. He became a US citizen in 1990. Manny worked at Garland Mills in Stoughton and at Morse Shoe in Canton for many years. He also was the longtime Station Attendant at Johnnie’s Texaco in Stoughton where he always greeted his customers with a smile and cheerful hello. Manny was a man with boundless energy and enjoyed his work and interactions with his coworkers and customers. He loved working in his yard and tending to his vegetable garden. His most cherished times were spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mary Jo (Correia) DeMelo of Stoughton, he is survived by his three children, Nelson C. DeMelo and his wife Lori of Somerset, Lisa C. Karoul and her husband Brian of NH and Kevin C. DeMelo of Bellingham. He was the beloved grandfather of Jared and Nathan DeMelo and Sofia D. Karoul and Gavin C. Karoul. He was the brother of the late Jaime DeMelo.
At Manny’s request, Funeral Services will be private.
