Maria Marcelino (Gomes) Costa, 84, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the wife of the late Jose Ilidio Gomes Costa. Born in Lajes, Flores, Azores, Portugal, she was raised and educated there. Mrs. Costa was a resident of Stoughton since 1965. She worked as a Clerk and Tagger for Acme Boot and Morse Shoe for many years, retiring at age 65. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and was a member of the Holy Ghost of the Azores Society both in Stoughton. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening.
She is surivived by her children: Fatima Costa, Jose Antonio Costa, Teresa Henriques and Gorette Bettencourt all of Stoughton, Arlete Lourenco of Portugal and Dionisa Lewis of NC. She was the sister of Jose F. Gomes and Antonio Gomes both of Canada. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday, October 24 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Friday 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
