Obituary

Maria Conceição (Teixeira) DeAscensao, affectionately known as Connie, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 at Boston Medical Center South in Brockton. She was the beloved wife of 40 years to the late Jose DeAscensao before his passing in 2003. Born, raised, and educated in Madeira, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Maria (Coelho) Teixeira. In 1967, Connie immigrated to the United States and settled in Stoughton, where she began building a life and raising her family. Connie was employed as a quality inspector at Northrop in Norwood for over 25 years before retiring at the age of 62. A woman of deep faith and devotion, she was an active member of the Portuguese National Club in Stoughton and generously volunteered her time at Immaculate Conception Church, where she enjoyed being involved in her church and local community. She also devoted many years to volunteering with the Stoughton Council on Aging, giving her time to helping the elderly. She enjoyed gardening and took great pride in caring for her beautiful rose bushes and hydrangeas, and was the happiest when she was spending time outdoors. She also enjoyed traveling, knitting, watching the New England Patriots, and cooking delicious homemade meals for her family, and above all spending time with her loved ones was what she cherished most.

Connie is survived by her daughter Monica T. Avelar and her husband Renato of Berkley, and was preceded in death by her daughter Maria C. Medeiros. She was the Vovó to Lexi Avelar, Derek Medeiros, Ryan Medeiros and the late Shane Medeiros, and leaves behind her great-grandchildren Riley and Cecelia Medeiros. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Maria Antonete, Maria Jose, Maria Coelho, Isaac Teixeira, Francisco Teixeira, Jose Teixeira and Celina Teixeira, and is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton on Thursday November 12th from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held the next day Friday, November 13th, at the funeral home at 9:30 AM, with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. Interment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton. In lieu of flowers donations in Connie’s memory may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at https://www.nationalmssociety.org.
