Maria C. (Mendonca) Freitas

Maria C. (Mendonca) Freitas, 91, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at the Heights Crossing Assisted Living Center in Brockton. She was the wife of the late Jose M. Freitas. Born and raised in Lajes on the island of Flores in the Azores, she came to the United States in 1980 and settled in Stoughton. She worked for several area businesses, including Corcoran Shoe in Stoughton, for many years, and retired from Canton Samples in Canton. Mrs. Freitas was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton and was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who cherished the time that she spent with her beloved family.

Mrs. Freitas was the mother of Laureolo Freitas and his wife Maria Josefina, Fernando Freitas and his wife Maria C. and Norman Freitas and his wife Maria Filomena, all of Stoughton and the late Laurentina Freitas and her surviving husband Jose F. Freitas of Stoughton and Jose Freitas. She was the sister of Antonio Ferreira of Stoughton and the late Luis Ferreira, Teresa Duarte and Maria Escobar. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, July 7 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maria's memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
