Maria Laureana (Santos) Garcia, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 87 years old. Wife of deceased Jose Ferreira Garcia and daughter of the late Francisco Tomas Santos and Palmira Mendonca (Mathews) Santos, Maria came to the US in 1957 from Caveira, Flores, Azores, Portugal and spent a short period of time in California, before settling in Stoughton. Maria married Jose in 1959, and they enjoyed over 58 years of marriage. They raised two beloved daughters before his passing in 2018. A wonderful mother, she dedicated her life to her husband, daughters, son in laws and the two lights of her life, her granddaughters.
The two central parts of Maria’s life were her family and her faith. Maria was a beloved matriarch of her family, an animal lover who enjoyed her daily coffee and donut from Dunkin Donuts, cooking, reading and gardening.
Mrs. Garcia is survived by her two daughters, Olivia Garcia and her husband Joao of Stoughton and Fatima Garcia-Fedorowicz and her husband Frank of Canton. She was the loving Avo of Kayla Jane and Katerina Jane Fedorowicz. She was the sister of Mary P. Santos of Stoughton and the late Francisco Mendonca Santos, Jose Francisco Santos. She is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, September 21st, at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday, September 20th from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maria’s memory may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton, MA 02072.
