Maria Jose (Furtado) Marcal

Maria Jose (Furtado) Marcal, 81, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at Boston Medical Center South in Brockton on Monday, May 18, 2026. She was the wife of João F. Marcal for 60 years. Daughter of the late Carlos J. and Maria (De Lourdes) Furtado, she was born and raised on Corvo Island in the Azores islands of Portugal before coming to the United States and settling in Stoughton in 1971. Maria worked at Datel in Norwood for 12 years as well as other companies in the area until her retirement at age 58. She was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. She volunteered for many events at the São João Filarmònica Society in Stoughton over the years. She enjoyed cooking and working out but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Maria is survived by her sons, John A. Marcal and his wife Sandra of Berkley and Carlos A. Marcal of Stoughton as well as her grandchildren, Dylan Marcal and his wife Alexandra, Anthony Marcal, Reece Marcal, Joaquin Marcal and Gabriella Marcal and her great-granddaughter, McKenna Marcal. She was the sister of Antonio Furtado and Lourdes Camara both of Stoughton and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, May 26 from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday, May 27 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
