Maria J. (Ferreira) Reis

Maria J. (Ferreira) Reis, 81, died Thursday, September 1, 2022, at her home in Stoughton, after a long period of declining health.  Daughter of the late Mariano and Ana (Mendonca) Ferreira, she was born in Caveira on the island of Flores in the Azores Islands of Portugal and was raised and educated in Flores.  She came to the United States in 1958 and settled in Stoughton.  In 1960, she married Gilbert A. Reis and together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage and raised 4 beloved children.  Maria worked at Boston Envelope for over 17 years and previously as a waitress at America’s Restaurant in Stoughton for over 10 years.  She retired several years ago.  Maria was a longtime, dedicated communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton.  She was a loyal and dedicated BINGO player and traveled to area BINGO games faithfully.  In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her beloved family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Gilbert J. Reis, Gary P. Reis and Roy A. Reis, all of Stoughton.  Sister of Celeste Costa of Flores, she was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth Reis, her beloved grandson, Justin Patrick Reis, and her brothers, Antonio and Edward Ferreira.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Sunday, September 4, 2022 from 3:00 to 5:30 PM with Funeral Prayers at 5:30 PM.
