Maria Salome (Leonardo) Furtado, 79, died Monday, February 26, 2024, at her home in Stoughton after a long period of declining health. She was the wife of Antonio V. Furtado. Born and raised on the island of Flores in the Azores of Portugal, she came to the United States in 1971 and settled in Stoughton. She was a dedicated wife and mother who also worked as an assembler at Analog Devices and later as a Chip Mount at Datel for many years. She retired at age 66. Salome was a longtime communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and a member of the Holy Ghost Society and at the San Joao Filharmonic Society, all in Stoughton. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was known for her delicious Sweet Bread and her Malassadas. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her husband and her family.
Mrs. Furtado was the mother of the late Denise L. Furtado and Debby L. Furtado. She was the sister of Julia Furtado and Antonio Leonardo, both of Canada, Maria Teixeira and the late Maria L. Fernandes and Luisa S. Dias. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Thursday from 4-7PM. Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Friday at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Salome’s memory may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main Street Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760.
