Maria Natalia Tomas Vieira, 91, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 16, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Jose de Freitas Vieira. Daughter of the late Francisco Caetano Tomas and Maria Rodrigues Tomas, she was born and raised in Lagedo, Flores, Azores, Portugal. Maria came to the U.S. and settled in Stoughton in 1972. She worked at Acme Boot and then Spoontiques for several years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and caring for her loved ones. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Maria is survived by her children, Maria Vieira, Carlos M. Vieira and Isabel M. Fernandes and her husband Elio all of Stoughton, as well as her grandchildren, Ryan Murray and Jasper, Jeremy and Veronica Fernandes. She was the sister of Tomas de Freitas, Maria Peer, of Vancouver and Toronto and Joao Antonio Tomas of Lisbon. Maria is predeceased by her sisters Maria J. Pacheco, Lourdes Rebelo, Florentina Tomas, and brothers Jose Tomas, Afonso Tomas and Francisco Tomas. Maria is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, funeral services are private with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton.
