Mary J. (Whynot) Gavin

Mary J. Gavin, 80, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Born in Randolph, the youngest of 13 children, she was raised and educated in Avon and was a graduate of Avon High School. Mary married Edward T. Gavin in 1960, and together they shared over 60 years of marriage and raised 6 beloved children. Mary was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. After raising her family in Westwood and Plymouth, she became a longtime resident of Stoughton and moved to Canton two years ago. In her younger days, Mary enjoyed sailing with her family and traveling with her husband to the British Virgin Islands and West Indies on cruises. As her health declined over the past years, her devoted husband Ed became a gifted and skilled caretaker to Mary and lovingly catered to her. Throughout her life, her most cherished times were spent surrounded by her family.

In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her children: Phyllis M. Mello and her husband Kurt of Holbrook, Edward T. Gavin, Jr. of Middleboro, Mary E. Dore and her husband Sean of Braintree, David M. Gavin and his wife Anne of Hamilton, John J. Gavin and his wife Suzanne of Plymouth and Paula J. Fisk and her husband John of NY. She was the sister of Dorothy MacDonald of Bridgewater and was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions, private family services will be held with burial at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Friendship Home, PO Box 916, Norwell, 02061.
