Mary Agnes (Gillis) Hampton, affectionately known as Mady, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 14, 2026, at the Arbors at Taunton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, John Sheldon Hampton, who passed away in 2023. She was a longtime resident of both Stoughton and Avon, where she made so many lifelong friends. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Mabel (Rose) and Wilfred Gillis, and was raised and educated in Dorchester, graduating from St. Patrick's High School, Class of 1963. She dedicated much of her life to her family as a devoted homemaker keeping her home open to everyone. After raising her children, Mady pursued a career in nursing and earned her Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate from Southeastern Regional. She found her calling when she took on a job caring for a three-year-old boy named Tim with Cerebal Palsy and ended up caring for him for 30 years. Mady was a longtime member of a bowling league for over 40 years, enjoyed a good glass of Chardonnay, and loved making memories with her two best friends, Barb and Edie. Together, they shared annual trips to Pompano Beach, Florida, a tradition that brought her great joy throughout the years. More than anything, Mady cherished her family and will be greatly missed.

Mady is survived by her children Suzanne Rakutis and her husband Paul of Avon, Michelle Mendonca and her husband John of Mattapoisett, Melissa Chicoine and her husband Kevin of Middleboro and Gregory Hampton and his wife Vivien of Belchertown. She was the Grammy to her grandchildren Ryan Hampton and his wife Brynne, Zachary Rakutis, Tyler Rakutis and his wife Kellie, Cassandra Doherty, Cody Rakutis, Kyle Rakutis and his wife Lyndsay, Courtney Zurwaski and her husband Ryan, Jillian, Tessa, Morgan, and Sydney Mendonca, and Isa and Eben Hampton, and her great-grandchildren Brayden, Brody, Charlie, Emmy, Rosie and Adeline. She was the loving sister to Rita Kerwin and Margie Tarpey and was predeceased by her siblings Owen and Bill Gillis, and leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with her two lifelong friends of over 70 years, Barb Morrill and Edie Frigulietti and their families who were like her own, as well as her furry companion and four legged friend Buddy.
