Mary “Jeanne” (Murphy) DeVito, 95, died August 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph P. DeVito for over 70 years. Born and raised in Dorchester, Jeanne attended Girl’s High School in Boston and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Sargent College at Boston University in 1952. She was a member of the first graduating class in Physical Therapy. She met Joe, the love of her life, at BU, and they married after graduation. She dedicated her career to geriatric P.T., caring for patients in skilled care facilities and private homes. She retired from Milton Visiting Nurses more than 30 years ago.

Jeanne was a long-time Stoughton resident and a dedicated parishioner of St James Catholic Church. Throughout her life, she became involved with civic organizations serving as a Girl Scout leader, religious education teacher, literacy volunteer, and ESL tutor. Jeanne was also an integral member of the Stoughton Historical Society along with her husband Joe, for over 20 years, serving as secretary and member of the Board.

In her spare time, Jeanne loved to travel, read, knit, and was an avid walker. She was a good friend and inspiration to many.

Jeanne will be greatly missed by her children; Joseph P. DeVito, Jr. and his wife Pauline of Watertown, Barbara D. Bourgoine and her husband Bruce of Maine, Carol D. Green and her husband Derek of North Carolina, Jane E. DeVito and her husband Daniel Smith of Ohio and Paul G. DeVito and his wife Kathleen of Grafton, and her sister Carol Ouellette (Leo) of Quincy. She was the beloved Grandma of Michael DeVito, Melissa Kane, Lindsay Bourgoine, Cara Harrigan Higgins, Audrey Green, Alexa Smith and Lauren DeVito. Jeanne was the great-grandmother of Ethan Harrigan, Oscar and Otto Leoni and Lucy Kane. She was predeceased by her parents John William and Gertrude (Galley) Murphy and her sisters, Janet Boomhower and Ruth DeSantis. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 9:00 am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours will be held in the Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Internment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton, immediately after the funeral.
