Mary A. (Portugal) Sousa

Mary A. (Portugal) Sousa, 94, died Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home. Born in Stoughton, daughter of the late Manuel T. and Mary (Pereira) Portugal, she was a lifelong resident of Stoughton and a graduate of Stoughton High School. Mary married Louis R. Sousa and together they and raised their two beloved daughters. Mary was a longtime employee of Stoughton Town Hall, working in the Engineering Department for over 30 years and retiring in 2000. Additionally, she also worked for the Stoughton School System teaching English in the Bilingual Program for several years. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, reading and spending time with her family.

Mary was the wife of the late Louis R. Sousa and the mother of Lisa J. Coppola and her husband Christopher of FL and the late Debra J. Miller. She was the grandmother of Brendan Ellis and his wife Lauren, Sean Ellis and his wife Dawn, Ashley Miller, Jake Arthur and Brittney Oliveira and her husband Michael.  She was the great grandmother of Alicia, Louie, Charlie, Kayla, Blake, Nash and Millie; and the great great grandmother of Kaidence and Talon.

Graveside services will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave., Bourne on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 10:45 AM.
