Mildred “Millie” Louise (Drake) Foss passed away on February 21, 2026. She was born on July 17, 1931 and was a lifelong resident of Stoughton.
Millie was the daughter of the late Helen (White) Berggren of Stoughton. She was married in 1950 to her first husband, Domet Thomas, Jr, who passed away in 1959, and later in 1962 she married Arthur (Chan) Foss, Jr., who passed away in 1993. She always said she was lucky to have lived “two lives” with two wonderful husbands.
Millie is survived by her three children from her first marriage, Gary D. Thomas and wife Cindy Parks Thomas of Scituate, Wayne E. Thomas and wife Linda Thomas of Stoughton, and Cheryl A. Thomas and husband Marc Davies of Oxford, England. She was the much-loved and devoted grandmother of Brett Parks Thomas of New York City, Rachel Rose Thomas of Charlestown, and Ryan David Thomas of Bridgewater. She is also survived by her cherished sister, Elizabeth “Betty” (Berggren) Moore and preceded in death by her brothers, Erik Roland Berggren, Jr. and Harold “Buster” Berggren.
Millie lived all her life in Stoughton and was deeply attached and committed to her community. She served as a Stoughton Town Meeting Representative for Precinct One from 2005-2011, and was a life-long Stoughton Election Official serving at local, state and national elections from the 1960s through the 2000s. She was also a long-serving and dedicated member of the Stoughton Historical Society, helping to fundraise, run events and serve on committees for the Society throughout the 1990s and 2010s. Millie was one of the last remaining members of the Stoughton High School Class of 1949 and maintained lasting friendships with classmates throughout her life.
As a teenager in the 1940s Millie became a lifelong Red Sox fan, and despite the “Curse of the Bambino,” she never lost faith in the team and to her great joy (and relief) she lived to celebrate four World Series titles.
Funeral arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Millie's memory may be made to the Stoughton Historical Society, PO Box 542, Stoughton, MA 02072.
