Oscar Rodrigues “Rod” Cabral Jr., 78, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Boston Medical Center Brighton on Thursday, January 22, 2026. He was the husband of Christine A. (Savage) Cabral for 56 years. He was born in Brockton, son of the late Oscar R. and Anna W. (Roach) Cabral. He was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1967 before joining the U.S. Army. Rod served in the Army for 2 years and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War before being honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class. He worked for the Quincy School Department as a Senior Custodian for 42 years before retiring in 2013. He was a member of the VFW Post 1645 in Stoughton. He loved fishing and coin collecting but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter.
In addition to his wife Chris, Rod was the father of Brenda L. Cabral and her husband Christian Taguinod of Easton and the late Anne M. Cabral and grandfather of Kaitlyn R. McMakin. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joseph McMakin. He was the brother of Carol Nihill of Brockton, Valerie Borden of Wareham and Susan Fearing of Sagamore. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, January 30 from 4-7 PM. Funeral Prayers will be offered from the funeral home on Saturday, January 31 at 11 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rod‘s memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168 or www.dana-farber.org.
