Phyllis A. (Snow) McCarter

Phyllis A. (Snow) McCarter, 87, died Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the Residence at Great Woods in Norton, after a period of declining health. Born in Boston, she was raised and educated in Roslindale and was a graduate of Roslindale High School, Class of 1953. In 1954, she married Dale McCarter and together they raised 4 children and enjoyed 65 years of marriage, before his death in 2019. In 1960, they moved their young family to Stoughton and made their home there for over 60 years. After raising her family, she worked as a Teacher's Assistant in the Stoughton Schools, primarily at the South School during the 1980's. Phyllis was a devoted mother to her children, especially her son Scott, whom she tirelessly tended to for his entire life. She was a founding member and a former President of the Stoughton Association of Exceptional Citizens (SAEC), a group dedicated to the care and betterment of those with disabilities. Her many friends within the SAEC provided the support and understanding needed to care for a child with special needs.

Phyllis's greatest pleasures in life were taking care of her home and her family, and being a generous "Nana" and "McNana" as her family grew. She was a great cook and baker who loved entertaining in her home and outdoors by the pool. She had an incredible memory, and her family loved hearing stories of her younger years and of her travels with Dale. Above all, she will be remembered as an empathetic listener who had deep compassion for others. She was the mother of David W. McCarter and Donna M. Jenssen and her husband Rich, all of Mansfield, Barbara S. Hathaway and her husband Tim of Norton and Scott C. McCarter of Brockton. She was the sister of Donald Snow (wife Jean) of ME and the late Leslie Snow and Robert Snow. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, her 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
