Raymond Anthony Buote, 88, a longtime resident of Middleboro, passed away peacefully at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Plymouth on Thursday, May 22, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lillian (Belushko) Buote for 63 years. Son of the late James A. and Mary (Hughes) Buote, he was born and raised in Stoughton. Ray was a Class of 1954 graduate of Coyle Cassidy High School in Taunton. He was a lifelong resident of Stoughton until moving to Oak Point in Middleboro 23 years ago. He was the owner of Ray Buote Carpet, Tile & Flooring and also worked as a facilities manager at Higashi School in Randolph for 10 years, retiring at age 65. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working at Easton Country Club in Easton and Kittansett Club in Marion.
Ray was a member of the Stoughton Lions Club and Stoughton Democratic Committee and a member of the Elks in Middleboro and volunteered at their Bingo events. He was an avid golfer and a member at Lakeville Country Club. Ray was active in his community at Oak Point, where he enjoyed playing Cornhole and was a past champion. He also played in a pool league, enjoyed playing cards and going dancing, all at Oak Point. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by his children, Jacquelyn Gottwald and her husband Kevin of Easton and Jeffrey Buote and his wife Gail of Bridgewater. He was the beloved “Yaya” of Jamie, Jake and Ryan Gottwald, Jeffrey and Chloe Buote and Michael Recupero and his wife Amy. He was the brother of the late James Buote, Jr., Rita Costello, Louis Buote, Lena Leard and Mary Theresa Sweeney. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, May 27 from 4-7 PM. Funeral Prayers will be offered from the funeral home on Wednesday, May 28 at 12 PM. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray‘s memory may be made to the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839 (www.redcross.org).
