Richard A. Fernandes

Richard A. Fernandes, age 57, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 19, 2025. Born and raised in Boston, he was the beloved son of the late Antonio and Maria (Pontes) Fernandes. Rich grew up in Roxbury, attended Boston public schools, and graduated from the Dearborn School.

A proud resident of Avon in recent years and a longtime Roxbury native, Rich brought a vibrant energy wherever he lived. He worked for many years as a dedicated baggage handler at Logan Airport and later at Eastern Baking Company in Boston, where his strong work ethic and easygoing spirit left a lasting impression.

Rich will be remembered most for his generous heart, quick wit, and the effortless way he made people feel at ease. His laugh was contagious, and his presence brought comfort and joy to those around him. A true music lover, Rich had an eclectic taste—from R&B and Hip Hop to Rap—with a special love for the iconic sounds of Prince.

He was also a talented cook, known especially for his legendary steak and sweet potatoes. In his downtime, he enjoyed gaming, animated TV shows, and quality time with his family and friends.

Rich was the proud father of Ryan Fernandes, US Navy, and the late Richard Anthony Fernandes. He is survived by his loving sister Mae Teixeira of Avon; his brothers-in-law Camilo Lopes and Joao Teixeira; his cherished nieces Kasilda Teixeira and her spouse Domingo Williams, and Kylia Teixeira; and his great-nephew Domingo Williams Jr. He also leaves behind many loving cousins, extended family, and friends who will miss him deeply.

Rich’s legacy lives on in the love he gave so freely and the memories he created with those who knew and loved him.
