Richard A. Mattson, 77, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died peacefully at Brockton Hospital on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 after a period of failing health. Son of the late Everett L. and Lorraine M. (Enos) Mattson, he was born in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School, Class of 1961. Richard honorably served in the U.S. National Guard. He was the owner of Richard A. Mattson & Sons Vinyl Siding in Brockton for 50 years before retiring in 2005. He was a longtime member of the Mason's in Massachusetts. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Richard is survived by his children, Kimberly I. Mattson of Ontario, New York, Wendi A. Oakes and her husband Richard of Brockton, Richard A. Mattson, Jr. and his wife Linda Golden of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and Dana A. Mattson and his wife Stefanie of Mansfield. He was the grandfather of Adam, Amy, Jackie, Erika, Christopher, Derek, Riley, Alyssa, Heather, Holly, April and the late Russell. He was the great-grandfather of Riley, Cristian, Bryson, Briar, Kimberly, Kayley, Kara, Kennadee "Gremlin," Ciara, Caleb, Cameron and Russell, Jr. and great-grandfather of Skyler. He was the brother of Everett "Butch" Mattson of Hanson, Glenn Mattson of Bridgewater, Jeff Mattson of West Bridgewater, Scott Mattson of Brockton, and the late Janet "Libby" Mattson. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Rita D. Stoute of Brockton, her daughter, Jeannette Hirtle and many nieces and nephews.
Family Reflections will be offered from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, December 9 at 6:30 PM. Visiting Hours prior from 4-6:30 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
