Richard J. McAteer, of Brockton age 78, passed away on April 24, 2026, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (McDonagh) McAteer, for 55 loving years. Born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, Richard was the son of the late Anne Comoletti. In his early twenties, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with honor. Following his military service, he dedicated over 20 years to public service working for the Department of Public Works on Granite Avenue in East Milton. Volunteering at the Brockton VA, for many years, he spent time giving back to the community. Richie loved photographing nature and was often seen with a camera around his neck. He also had an interest in computers but above all, he cherished his family and the time he spent with them.
In addition to his wife Pat, Richie is survived by his children Kristin McAteer of Plymouth and April Bradshaw of Watertown. He is also survived by his grandchildren Shawn McAteer, and Carter and Benjamin Bradshaw, and was expecting his first great-grandchild in May. He was the brother to Anthony McAteer, Eleanor Margeson, Theresa Comoletti, Anne Comoletti, Margaret Huyghe, Michael Comoletti, Charles Comoletti, Patricia Comoletti, and Christopher Comoletti. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Monday May 4th from 5-7 PM. Funeral will be held the next day Tuesday May 5th at the funeral home from 9:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church in Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Interment will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richie’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association at https://www.heart.org/, the Parkinson The Parkinson's Foundation">https://The Parkinson's Foundation, or a charity of one’s choice.
