Richard A. Oakes, 74, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Sunday, November 14, 2021. He was the husband of Jeannette K. (Lunnin) Oakes for 55 years. Son of the late Arnold K. and Dorothy E. (Buck) Oakes, he was born in Brockton. He was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1965. Richard was a hardworking man who always provided for his family, working as a machinist and a self-employed painter, painting for 26 years until his retirement 7 years ago. Richard was a member of the Vega Social Club in Brockton. He was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed fishing, gardening and crossword puzzles but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his sons, Richard A. Oakes, Jr. and his wife Wendi of Brockton and Brian E. Oakes and his wife Karen Power of Boston, as well as his grandchildren, Adam, Amy and Jackie and great-granddaughter Riley. He is also survived by his twin brother, Robert K. Oakes of Quincy, his sister Valerie J. Nutter and her husband William of Bridgewater and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Prayers will be offered from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, December 4 at 4:30 PM. Visiting Hours prior from 2:30-4:30 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's memory may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
