It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard L. Westover, Jr., 69, a man who always brought love and laughter to all aspects of his life. His selflessness and keen wit endeared him to everyone who was blessed to have him in their lives. Rick courageously fought a battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) and returned home to the Lord on Monday, June 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He fought like a warrior.
Rick was born in Plattsburgh, New York, a son of the late Shirley A. (Allen) and Richard L. Westover, and the brother of the late Ronald J. Westover.
Rick was raised in Braintree and graduated from Braintree High School, Class of 1975. He continued his education at Bentley College in Waltham, graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in 1979. He worked at Star Market early on during his high school and college years and then was employed by Hills Department Stores and Computershare in Canton during his professional career as a software developer. He retired from Computershare in 2024.
Rick lived a full and meaningful life marked by kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He enjoyed the gathering of family around all the holidays, but especially enjoyed all the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day celebrations. While reminiscing about his childhood, he fondly remembered all the trips to upstate New York to visit his aunts, uncles, and many cousins with whom he created fun-filled, lifelong memories. He also fondly remembered the bond he shared with his cousins and lifelong friends while growing up in Braintree.
Rick was incredibly proud of his children, Lauren and Ryan, and often said they gave him many of his life’s most joyous moments. However, Lauren and Ryan have both said it was he who gave them the greatest gifts. He was a constant exemplar of the values of selflessness, love, hard work, and integrity, and they strive to carry that legacy forward in their lives.
Rick leaves behind his beloved wife, Joan B. (Corrado) Westover of thirty-eight years; his loving children, Lauren L. Trembley and her husband, Thomas, of North Attleboro and Ryan R. Westover of Marlborough; and his granddaughter, Emily Mae Trembley, who brought tremendous light and joy into his life. Additionally, he leaves his two sisters, Debra Westover and her partner, Richard, of Braintree and Lisa Carney and her husband, James, of Quincy; his niece and nephew, Ashley and Derek Westover; and many cherished sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visiting Hours for family and friends will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Monday, June 29, from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, June 30, at 9:45 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton, at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org.
