Rita V. (Keeley) Lyons, 84, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at the Ellis Nursing Facility in Norwood, after a period of declining health. Daughter of the late James J. and Agnes (Egan) Keeley, she was born in Boston, raised, and educated in St. Brendan’s Parish section of Dorchester and a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Brookline. It was at St Mary’s where she met Albert E. Lyons. They married at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1957, moved to Stoughton in 1970 and together raised three beloved children. Mrs. Lyons worked as the Office Manager for William McCabe, DDS in Canton for many years and previously worked as a Legal Secretary in Boston. Rita decided to go to college as an adult and earned her Associate’s Degree in Business from Massasoit Community College in Brockton in 1986. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and a devout communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton for many years. Rita and Albert enjoyed their retirement by spending many winters in Naples, FL and enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. In her free time, she enjoyed oil painting landscapes and spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband Albert, she is survived by her children, Albert E. Lyons, Jr of Brockton, Elizabeth A. Malone and her husband Craig of VA and James K. Lyons of Stoughton. She was the grandmother of Caitlyn E. Tomso, Nicholas B. Malone and Jordan E. Lyons. She was predeceased by her 3 sisters; Theresa Chase, Maureen Pelkey and Joanne Tomaselli and is also survived by her great granddaughter Aila R. Tomso and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Monday, June 12, 2023 from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60601.
