Robert Brendan “Bob” Nutter, a longtime resident of Stoughton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

Bob was the beloved husband of 53 years to Marge (Sterling) Nutter and the proud father of Amy Nutter and Brendan Nutter. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late John and Mary Nutter.

Following his graduation from Brockton High School, Bob honorably served his country in the United States Army. Enlisting in 1967, he was stationed in Korea as a member of a Military Police unit attached to the Special Forces. After completing his service, he began a long and dedicated career with the Stoughton Post Office, where he worked for over 30 years as a letter carrier. In his retirement, Bob continued to serve his community through his work with the Stoughton Council on Aging.

A man deeply committed to family and community, Bob gave generously of his time and talents. He spent two decades coaching Stoughton Pop Warner Football and was actively involved as both a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. He took great pride in supporting his children’s activities – attending every one of his daughter’s dance recitals and swim meets, and could always be seen at his son’s baseball, hockey, and football games as his number one fan.

Bob and Marge shared many wonderful adventures together, traveling across the country to visit the National Parks and enjoying several cruises - his favorite being a journey to Alaska. Bob took great joy in the simple pleasures of life: driving his beloved 1985 Corvette, playing pool, and spending time with his late “grand-dogs” Ike and Bear.

In addition to his wife and children, Bob is survived by his siblings: John Nutter and his wife Betty, Pennie Nutter, Billy Nutter and his wife Val, Kevin Nutter, Winnie Alubicki and her husband Bob, and the late Danny Nutter and his wife Terry. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Bob and Marge are especially grateful for the devoted love and support of Bob’s sister Pennie, their niece, Susie Durning, her husband Joe, and their daughters, Allison and Victoria. The family would like to also extend their sincere gratitude to Champion Rehabilitation and its entire staff for their utmost care and compassion.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date.

Donations in Bob’s memory, and of his late nephew, Scott Sterling, may be made to the Sterling Promise Foundation, founded by Scott’s wife, Christina DiIorio-Sterling, at www.sterlingpromisefoundation.org.
