Robert “Butch” Foley passed away on August 7, 2026, after a brief illness surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Leona, with whom he shared 60 devoted years of marriage. Leona often said she did not truly know what love was until she met Butch. He was the best thing that ever happened to her, and their life together was filled with devotion, family, and lasting memories.

He was the son of the late Stephen and Margaret Foley of East Walpole, MA.

Butch leaves his children, Michael and his wife Christine Foley of Berkley, Timothy and his wife Kimberly Foley of North Attleboro, Kathleen Whyte of Berkley, and Dianne Foley of Plymouth.

Butch was also the proud Papa of Courtney and her husband Jarred Bathen, Ryan Foley and his wife Lauren, Rebecca Kelley and her husband Trent, Jake Whyte, Michaela Shea, George Shea, Alyson Whyte, and Julia Foley and the late Robert Whyte.

He was the proud Great Grand Papa of Jackson Bathen, Charlotte Bathen, and James Foley.

He was the brother of Margaret “Peggy” Foley and Claire Baldassari, and of the late Edward Foley and Francis Foley.

Butch was born on April 12, 1933, in Norwood, Massachusetts. He grew up in East Walpole and graduated from Walpole High School in 1951. After attending Boston College, he joined the United States Marine Corps and was discharged as a Corporal in 1956.

He held a variety of jobs that took him to Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, including work as a taxi driver, truck driver, mailman, and insurance investigator. After returning to Massachusetts, Butch joined the federal government as a Customs Inspector. It was during this time that he met Leona. They married and moved to Rhode Island, where Butch had been assigned.

They later moved to Toronto, where Butch worked at the international airport. While in Toronto, their first two children, twins Michael and Kathleen, were born. After two years there, they returned to the United States. Butch began working at Logan Airport, and the family settled in Stoughton, where they grew with the arrival of Dianne and then Timothy.

Butch was later assigned to Providence. He worked there for 26 years and remained until his retirement. After leaving the Customs Service, he went on to work at Liberty Mutual and then to the Cape Club of Sharon.

Outside of work and family life, Butch found great joy in the simple things he loved most. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed time on the course with his sons and brothers. A devoted sports fan and loyal Red Sox fan, he followed his teams with enthusiasm through winning seasons and difficult ones alike. He also loved to read, enjoyed birdwatching, and could often be found working on his crossword puzzles in his favorite chair. Some of his happiest memories were made during family vacations in Dennis Port, where time spent together on the Cape became a treasured family tradition.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton, on Friday, August 14, 2026 from 9-11 AM followed by Funeral Prayers at 11 AM. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
