Obituary

Roger “Rory” Moore, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 16, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Veronica (Tarpey) Moore for 63 wonderful years.

Rory was born in Dysart, County Roscommon, Ireland, where he was educated before immigrating to the United States at the age of 20. Upon arriving in the States, Rory quickly became part of the Irish community, forming many friendships that lasted throughout his life. It was at the Hibernian Hall on Dudley Street in Roxbury that he met his wife, Veronica, and they married in 1963. Together, they lived in Stoughton, where they raised their three children.

Rory was a proud member of IBEW Local Union 103 for more than thirty years before retiring. He was also a longtime member of the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton, where he spent much of his free time, either volunteering or enjoying concerts, dinners, and dances. He was always willing to lend a hand, whether working at festivals, helping with community events, or even assisting with the construction of the building. He remained deeply connected to the Irish community that had become such an important part of his life.

Rory was always an avid sports fan and a true GAA enthusiast. Whether it was football or hurling, minor or senior, he would happily watch any match. He took great pleasure in following the games and sharing his love of Irish sports with family and friends.

A longtime parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary in Stoughton, Rory later became a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton.

He loved taking road trips and was extremely proud of being a U.S. citizen. But most of all, Rory cherished spending time with his family. He was the person you could always count on—the one who was there to lend a hand, offer support, or simply be present when needed. His kindness, generosity, and devotion to his family and community will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, Veronica, Rory is survived by his children, Karen M. Moore of Milton, Stephen G. Moore of Foxboro, and Paul J. Moore of Stoughton. He was the proud grandfather of Anna Moore.

He is also survived by his siblings George of Dysart, Roscommon; Sr. Lena of Roscommon; Francis of Stoughton, MA; Vincent of West Roxbury, MA; Joe of Ballinasloe, Galway; and Sr. Rita of Wicklow. He was predeceased by his siblings Margaret of Westwood, MA; Bernadette of Cheltenham, UK; and Maura of Ballygar, Ireland.

Rory also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and dear friends who will remember him with great affection.

Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Monday August 24th from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held the next day Tuesday August 25th, at the funeral home at 9:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton at 10:30. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rory’s memory may be made to the Irish Cultural Centre at https://www.irishculture.org/support/donate/.
