Roland O. Laferte, M.D., 87, died peacefully at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Wednesday, August 26, 2020. He was the husband of Jeannine M. (Gallant) Laferte for 65 years. Son of the late Oscar and Mary Jane (Dube) Laferte, he was born and raised in Woonsocket, RI. He was a graduate of Assumption Prep School in Worcester, Class of 1951. Roland then served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. Upon his return he earned his Bachelor's Degree at Assumption College in Worcester, Class of 1957. He graduated from the University of Laval Medical School in Quebec City, Canada in 1964 and served his residencies at University Hospital in Boston and Boston City Hospital from 1964-1969. He resided in Canton from 1969-2002 before moving to Mashpee for 14 years and returning to Canton in 2016. Dr. Laferte was a Urologist in the Stoughton and Brockton area from 1969 until his retirement in 2001. He was a Past President of the Plymouth District of the Massachusetts Medical Society and was a Past President of Medical Staff at Cardinal Cushing General Hospital in Brockton. He was also a Trustee of the Massachusetts Medical Society. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed playing golf and tennis, skiing, traveling, going to the theatre and reading but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Laferte is survived by his children, Wayne M. Laferte and his wife Susan of Stoughton, Steven M. Laferte and his wife Alexandra of Plymouth, Michelle J. Murphy and her husband William of Canton and Kathryn A. Berardi and her husband Russell of Easton. He was the grandfather of Jason, Jessica, Sasha, Alexa, Olivia, Julia, Eric, Douglas, Lauren and the late Gina. He was the brother of the late Claudette Lamy and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Monday, August 31 at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Gerard Majella Church, Canton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 2-5 PM. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
