Roland P. Lonergan, 97, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Tufts Medical Center in Boston after being stricken ill at his home earlier in the week. He was the husband of the late Marie M. (LaCorti) Lonergan and Mildred (Kelleher) Lonergan. Born in Stoughton, he was raised and educated in Stoughton and attended Stoughton Schools. Roland was a proud WWII Veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1944 until 1946.  Upon his Honorable Discharge, he returned home and began working at Draper Brothers Mills in Canton, working there for over 40 years. He retired in 2009. After his retirement, he began working at the Stoughton Recycling Center, a job that he enjoyed and held for over 10 years until his final retirement in 2020 at the age of 93. Roland was a gifted handyman and enjoyed helping family and friends with projects both large and small in his free time. He was an avid football fan and loved spending his Sundays watching the Patriots and the NFL.  He also enjoyed fishing, especially at the Canton Reservoir. Above all, Roland loved spending time with his beloved family.

Roland is survived by his six loving children: Catherine Clinton and her husband Philip, Roland “Paul” Lonergan and his wife Tonette and Michael Lonergan and his wife Dorothy, all of FL, Nancy Lonergan and her spouse Marion “Peg” Lord of Avon, James Lonergan of Whitman and Susan Keller of Stoughton. He was the brother of Barbara Jackson of NH and the late Joseph, Leo and James “Buddy” Lonergan, Mary Margaret Nelson, Patricia Hammond, Helen Gallant, Frances Ritchie, Mildred Doucette and Pauline Salvesen. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, June 13 from 4-7 followed by Funeral Prayers at 7 PM.  Donations in Roland’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or to American Cancer Society,
