Rose A. "Rae" O’Neil

Rose A. “Rae” O’Neil, 86, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, surrounded by her family, in love, comfort, and peace. Born and raised in Charlestown, Massachusetts, Rae was the cherished daughter of the late Alice and Joseph Hurley. She carried her strong Irish roots and deep devotion to family throughout her life. She was a graduate of Archbishop Cushing High School, Class of 1956, and was a graduate of Wheelock College, earning a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, dedicating many years to serving children and families through Self Help Head Start, retiring in 2004. Her kindness and steady presence touched many lives. Rae loved the water and spent many happy years boating at Savin Hill Yacht Club with P.J. Maloney. She also lived for many years on the water in Hull, Massachusetts. Though she loved the sea, she was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Rae is survived by her loving children, Gene O’Neil and his daughters, Erin Trygstad and Meaghan Ortler; Cathy (O’Neil) Flewelling and her children, Kyle and Alicen Flewelling; Patti (O’Neil) Eisenhaur and her children, Derek Eisenhaur, Brian Eisenhaur and his wife, Ginnette Eisenhaur, Jeffrey Eisenhaur and his wife, Jecheima Andrade, and their father, Vinny Eisenhaur; Buddy O’Neil and his wife, Kellie O’Neil, and their children, Kaitlyn Solari and her husband, Doug Harry, Stephanie Zaniboni and her husband, Alex Zaniboni, Sarah O’Neil and her fiancé David Geller, and Jason O’Neil. She was also the proud great-grandmother of twelve great-grandchildren. Rae is also survived by her siblings: Arthur Hurley, Bill Hurley, Mary Ellen Martin, and Anne Marie Hurley and her husband, Mark Darling; her sister-in-law, Pam Hurley; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Bartlett, her brother, Joseph Hurley, her sister-in-law, Alice Hurley, and was formerly married to the late Eugene O’Neil. Rae will be remembered for her warmth, resilience, and the deep love she shared with her family.
