Stephen Polychrones, age 100, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2023, at his residence in South Easton, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his wife Despa V. (Vlamos), who passed away in 2019. Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late John and Demetra (Moran) Polychrones. He was a longtime resident of both Stoughton and Mashpee. In his 20's, he was proud to serve his country in WWII, working as a medic in the U.S. Army, in England and France, and received a battle star from the Battle of the Bulge. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he went on to become owner of E.H. Metalcraft machine shop out of West Bridgewater, for over 30 years, before retiring in 1988 at age 65. He was a longtime member of the Amicable Lodge A.F. and A.M. of Cambridge, and the Early Bird American Legion Post 0297. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Stephen is survived by his children Patricia Dykeman and her husband George of Norton, Susan Hansen and her husband Ralph of Osterville and Stephanie Spencer and her husband Robert of North Easton. He is survived by his grandchildren Scott Dykeman, Melissa McCormack, Stephen Hansen, Gregory Hansen, Jonathan Spencer, Courtney Jansson and Alexander Spencer. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren Colin, Patrick, Sabrina, Chloe, Brayden, William, Julia, Aurora, Sienna, River, Spencer, Bentley, Easton, Tristan, and Theodore. He was preceded in death by his siblings Ann Makos and Arthur Polychrones.
Family services were held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stephen's name may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
