Virginia C. "Gini" (Gill) Hathaway

Virginia C. “Gini” (Gill) Hathaway, age 89, peacefully passed away with family by her side, on September 12, 2023, at The Residence at Great Woods in Norton, MA. She was the beloved wife to John Hathaway for 61 years before his passing in 2017. Born in Norwood, she was the daughter to the late Carolyn I. (Bogue) Gill and Howard E. Gill. She was a lifelong resident of Stoughton, graduating from Stoughton High School in 1952. She went on to attend Bridgewater State University, and received a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1970. She was a substitute teacher in the Stoughton Public Schools for many years, and then worked for Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company in the claims department before retiring. Gini was active at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Stoughton, and later at the Christ Congregational Church in Brockton. She absolutely loved painting, drawing, and doing anything that involved arts and crafts, showcasing her talent through her passion. She also loved watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, but above all, spending time with her family was her favorite thing to do. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her.

Gini is survived by her children Tim Hathaway and his wife Barbara of Norton, Mark Hathaway and his wife Beth of Virginia, and Paul Hathaway and his wife Joan of Rochester. She is also survived by her brother Stuart Gill and his wife Sandra of New York, and was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Gill. She was “Nana” to Megan, Taylor, Laura, Carolyn, Emma, Elizabeth, Matthew, and Steph, and was “Great-Nana” to Sammy, Madelyn, Isabelle, Anthony, Joey, Sully, Graham, and Avery. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Monday, September 18th from 11:30-12:30 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:30 PM. Interment will be held at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gini’s memory may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 100 Myles Standish Boulevard, Suite 103, Taunton, MA 02780.
